Months after thwarting a Berlin terrorist attack at the 11th hour, Claire Danes’ operative returns to home turf in today’s pulse-pounding new trailer, where she finds herself caught up in Washington D.C.’s political whirlwind. Set between Election Day and the Inauguration – and neatly aligning with the ongoing presidential race in the process – Homeland season 6 imagines a scenario in which Elizabeth Marvel (House of Cards) has been sworn in as President-elect, and it’s up to Carrie to keep her calm during this period of transition.

New threats begin to emerge, however, and together with Saul (Mandy Patinkin), and Dar Adal (F. Murray Abraham), our steely lead begins to navigate between those competing interests in Washington’s corridors of power, all the while providing council and aid to Muslims living in the States. Hill Harper (Limitless), Robert Knepper (Prison Break), Patrick Sabongui (The Flash) and Dominic Fumusa (Nurse Jackie) are among the guest stars for Homeland season 6, and you can find the official logline, below.

She has begun working at a foundation whose efforts are to provide aid to Muslims living in the U.S. Season six will tackle the after effects of the U.S. presidential election, with the entire season taking place between election day and the inauguration. It’s a strange, transitional time in the halls of government filled with anxiety and different competing interests, where a very fragile and complex transfer of power takes place between the outgoing president and the incoming president-elect.

Homeland returns for its sixth year on the airwaves on January 15. With seasons 7 and 8 already locked in, Claire Danes’ former CIA operative is very much in it for the long haul.
