Kelly Clarkson fans, rejoice: despite having released the album, Piece by Piece, in 2015, the singer says that she’s in the studio working on new material for a new record. It might seem far away, but it could be arriving sooner than you think.

Talking with People, Clarkson says that she expects the lead single to debut in April while the album comes out in June. As far as sound goes, fans can look forward to her “favorite thing” she’s ever done as the new tunes take the route of “soulful urban pop” as opposed to her regular “rock pop.” Either way, the only album she’s ever released in June was 2007’s My December, and considering that’s one of her strongest, it’s not far fetched to believe that the best may be yet to come.

Last year’s record, Piece by Piece, found Clarkson exploring new boundaries with songs that had her familiar flair on it mixed with some more dance pop sensibilities. It had an all-star writing cast, too, including credits from Sia, Matthew Koma, Bonnie McKee and more – the co-writing team that contributes to this new album could definitely make or break it. If you’re itching for new Kelly Clarkson right now, you can check out her cover of “It’s Quiet Uptown,” which released off the upcoming Hamilton mixtape last week.
