After getting reports of both Michael Bay and Shia LaBeouf saying that they are done with their extremely lucrative franchise, it left people wondering if there would be anymore Transformers in the future. Today we have word from producer Don Murphy regarding the future of the franchise and where it is headed.

What happens next? Certainly not a reboot. We haven’t lost the Transformers. They didn’t grow up or become expensive like Toby Maguire. I don’t know what happens next. I’m pretty sure there will be a second trilogy. I am pretty sure it will kick ass. And I am pretty sure some of you will hate it because it wasn’t all bots.

Despite the second and third films being pretty awful (they both took a heavy critical lashing), they still made a ton of money. It’s no surprise that Murphy would want the series to continue, but a whole second trilogy? Where on Earth does this story have left to go?

Not being that familiar with the Transformers, there are probably other enemies and characters that I’m not aware of which could lead to more endless battle sequences of non-stop explosions. However, if Bay truly isn’t coming back, there is at least the possibility that the series will get some new life injected into it that’s been missing since the first film, which I actually enjoyed.

There would also be a small problem of having to find a new lead star if Shia LaBeouf isn’t coming back either. There is that rumor about Jason Statham, but he doesn’t really seem like a good fit. Perhaps a reboot is just what this series needs to get past the two previous installments.

At this point, it could possibly help the series get back on its feet by having new people take a crack at these stories. The second and third parts of the series suffered heavily because there was no reason to care about the characters or anything that was going on in their paper-thin plots which were merely filled with numerous explosions contained in incomprehensibly-bad editing.

But then again, let’s be honest. Those involved in their production aren’t exactly concerned about quality. As long as the films continue to make money, they’ll continue to churn them out even if they end up as bad the last two entries.

What do you think? Would you like to see a reboot? Is a second trilogy a good idea or are you completely sick of Transformers at this point?
