Bringing an end to months of anticipation and excitement, Pablo Larraín’s starry biopic Jackie is barrelling down on its December 2 release date and in a last-ditch attempt to drum up the film’s award credentials, Fox Searchlight has today rolled out two new TV spots and a rather poignant clip showcasing Natalie Portman as the former First Lady.

Left facing her husband’s devastating assassination and a country in mourning, down below you’ll be able to catch yet more footage of Portman commanding the screen as the late, great Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. Set immediately after JFK’s untimely death in ’63, Jackie promised to be an intimate portrait of the former First Lady, who handled such an overwhelming situation – emotionally, politically, you name it – with dignity and grace, particularly when it came down to safeguarding the “Camelot” legacy she and her husband built together.

The real question left now is, will Portman’s performance woo the Academy? If last night’s Gotham Awards are any indication, the actress will face an uphill battle if she really is to bag her second Academy Award, after losing out to Isabelle Huppert and her fierce performance in Elle.

Of course, awards season is only now beginning to kick into gear, and other ceremonies don’t necessarily have much of a bearing on the industry’s main events (read: the Oscars and Golden Globes), but it’ll be fascinating to see how Jackie fares nonetheless. Indeed, will Larraín’s biopic secure nominations in other categories beyond Best Actress? Time will tell.

Directed by Pablo Larraín and produced by Black Swan‘s Darren Aronofsky, Jackie is due to grace select theaters on December 2.
