Well, this makes sense. According to multiple sources, a 7 minute prologue for Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk will be shown in front of select 70mm IMAX screenings of Disney’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. And when we say select, we do mean select – only 15 theatres in the world will be showing the upcoming Anthology film in 70mm.
Though Rogue One wasn’t shot on 70mm cameras, parts of Nolan’s Dunkirk were. Not only that, but the director has shown exclusive IMAX prologues for some of his movies in the past (The Dark Knight Rises, The Dark Knight), which is why we said above that this news isn’t all that surprising and makes perfect sense. Plus, there’s also the fact that like Dunkirk, Rogue One will feature gritty battle sequences, so both films are targeting similar audiences.
In terms of North American theatres where you can catch the prologue, there’s not too many. Here’s the full list though, courtesy of /Film.
