Ahead of the film’s trailer, which debuts later tonight, Marvel has released the first official photo from Spider-Man: Homecoming, featuring Tom Holland standing in front of a train all suited up – except for his mask, which he’s holding in his hand.

Brought to us by USA Today, the outlet reports that the upcoming reboot will focus on Peter “wrestling with a return to his normal life in Queens after being recruited by Stark and surviving his first huge superhero battle.” Making matters worse is The Vulture, who’s being played by Michael Keaton and is described as “an average Joe with criminal tendencies and a wicked wing suit.”

“The first time we see the Vulture is terrifying,” Holland teases. “It’s like a horror movie: really scary, very intense and shocking.”

“The Spidey foe is different than other Marvel baddies such as Thanos and Ultron,” director Jon Watts says. “It’s fun to think that if Spider-Man is a regular kid who becomes a superhero, there’s got to be a bunch of regular guys who become supervillains, too.”

Pitting Tom Holland’s web-head against The Vulture – along with a handful of other iconic villains, if early reports are to be believed – Spider-Man: Homecoming very much signals a new chapter for Marvel’s beloved character, who will soon re-team with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes for Avengers: Infinity War in 2018. Long before that titanic tussle though, Holland will be rubbing shoulders with Keaton, Marisa Tomei, Donald Glover and many, many more when Homecoming swings into theatres this summer.

Stay tuned to We Got This Covered later tonight, as we’ll be bringing you full coverage of the teaser trailer the moment it drops on Jimmy Kimmel Live. In the meantime, tell us, what are your knee-jerk impressions upon seeing the first official footage and still from the film? Indeed, are you excited for the Jon Watts-directed standalone movie? Do let us know.

Expect Spider-Man: Homecoming to release on July 7, 2017.
