The excitement for Spider-Man: Homecoming is palpable. Throughout the course of the week, Marvel’s piecemeal marketing strategy – an official photo here, an updated plot synopsis there – had ardent fans on red alert, all of which culminated in the mother lode: the unveiling of not one, but two new trailers of Homecoming that welcomed Tom Holland’s return in the title role.

We say return because, of course, Holland first appeared as the young web-slinger in Captain America: Civil War, and the fallout from Joe and Anthony Russo’s team-up movie can very much be felt throughout these first Homecoming trailers.

Returning to the Big Apple after fighting alongside Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, Peter Parker struggles to fit back into some sense of normalcy. He’s been placed under the watchful eye of Tony Stark, it seems, who lends Parker a helping hand in the tech department. But Holland’s charismatic lead wants nothing more than to spread his, ahem, wings and battle crime on the streets of NYC, a noble effort that leads him to Michael Keaton’s menacing Vulture.

When it comes to the overarching Marvel Cinematic Universe, eagle-eyed fans (via CBM) have spotted two MCU cameos buried within the first Homecoming teasers. Included in the gallery above, they’re none other than Howard Stark and Bruce Banner, and though we fully expect those characters to remain just cameos, it’s still a nice means of world-building nonetheless.

Spider-Man: Homecoming has been penciled in for release on July 7, 2017.

A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging super hero in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.). Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine – distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man – but when the Vulture (Michael Keaton) emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.
