Based on the success of the trailer released yesterday, Sony has now announced Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 for July 5th, 2019, according to Deadline. Of course, the Spidey sequel most likely won’t be titled Homecoming 2, but until we get an official moniker, that’s what we’re going with.

Making room on the release schedule for the Marvel hero is Bad Boys 4, which was originally set for July 3rd of that same year but is now moving to May 24th. It’s a move that makes sense, too, given that the only competition it’ll face there is from Warner Bros.’ upcoming Minecraft movie, which is obviously targeting a younger crowd – for the most part.

Circling back to the webslinger though, this is certainly exciting news. Granted, Tom Holland had revealed a month or so ago that they’d already started discussing the sequel, not to mention that he’s contracted for several more films, but this is the first official move that the studio’s made on the project and shows that they obviously have a lot of confidence in the upcoming reboot. And after watching the film’s first trailer, which debuted last night, it’s easy to see why that is.

For one, Holland is fantastic in the role. Charming, a good sense of humor and strong chemistry with Robert Downey Jr., he makes for a fantastic Peter Parker. Not only that, but the coming-of-age-story is being placed front and centre and it’s a refreshing change of pace from what we’ve seen in the MCU up until this point. Sure, there are still villains to contend with and a fair bit of action as well, but most of Homecoming looks to be a far cry from what we usually see in superhero films.

It’s still early days for the titular hero, but his future is certainly looking bright now that Sony have allowed Marvel to step in and lend a helping hand. Now if only July 7th could hurry up and get here quicker so we can finally lay eyes on Spider-Man: Homecoming in all of its glory.
