It’s about to go down, folks. Samuel L. Jackson, who so brilliantly brought the ice-cool Lucius/Frozone to life more than 12 years ago, is officially back in the voice booth to begin work on The Incredibles 2.

Brad Bird’s animated sequel may still be a ways off – June 2018 is the new release window – but the fact that Jackson has completed his first recording session indicates that The Incredibles 2 is, at the very least, beginning to take shape under the Mouse House. Little is known about the story that Bird and Co. are cooking up, but the pent-up demand for Pixar’s superhero family is palpable. It recently traded places with Toy Story 4 on the Pixar calendar, too, so budding fans will be welcoming the return of the studio’s Supers first, and Woody and the gang second.

Here’s Samuel L. Jackson’s status report from his first recording session on The Incredibles 2:

It’s about to go down… First recording session for…. INCREDIBLES 2!!!!

Despite a memorable turn in the 2004 original (“where is my super-suit?!”), there was a time when Frozone wasn’t necessarily considered a sure-thing for Brad Bird’s sequel, and that’s something Jackson himself has touched in on the past. But by 2014, Disney put rumors to bed by confirming Jackson’s place in the 2018 follow-up, and with recording sessions already underway, we can expect to catch wind of further announcements and teases in the coming months.

The Incredibles 2 will slam into theaters on June 15, 2018.
