Update: A second teaser image has found its way online today, which we’ve included below.

Original story: Ahead of the film’s first trailer, which will apparently be online this Thursday, Entertainment Weekly has debuted a brand new shot of Katherine Waterston in Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant. Sporting a very Ripley-esque look, it’s clear that the director is trying to emulate Sigourney Weaver’s iconic heroine from the original films and so far, he seems to be doing a good job.

If you, like us, have been keeping track of Covenant‘s production, you’ll know that the so-hot-right-now Waterston is on board to play Daniels, a key character and the wife of James Franco’s Branson. Beyond that, 20th Century Fox is ensuring any and all character details remain safely stowed away in the dark, but at the very least, we know that Waterston’s protagonist will have her sights trained on some form of enemy – be it man, woman or Xenomorph.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly about her experience working under the great Ridley Scott, Waterston gushed, “he’s a master! He’s got the energy of 10 25-year-olds. [Plus] he’s sadistic. He loves the thought of making people scream in a cinema.”

Further in the interview, Scott himself weighed in on the horror elements of Alien: Covenant, and why it’s much more difficult to “scare the shit out of somebody” than to make them laugh. Said he: “It’s hard to scare people. It’s a lot easier to make people laugh. But to really scare the sh– out of somebody? That’s difficult.”

In what is shaping up to be a busy week for Ridley Scott’s 2017 sequel, the film’s official Twitter account Tweeted out a second image to compliment yesterday’s nighttime shot of Colonial Marines. This time, the pic below draws attention to what we assume to be the Covenant‘s sleeping chambers, where Waterston and the crew have likely been placed into cryogenic sleep en route to a distant colony.

Alien: Covenant, also starring Demián Bichir, Carmen Ejogo, Jussie Smollett, Amy Seimetz, James Franco and two Michael Fassbenders, will dock in theatres on May 19, 2017. Be sure to stay tuned for the first trailer, as we’ll have it for you as soon as it drops.
