Daft Punk Score Their First Number One Hit With “Starboy”

Despite being one of the most influential electronic dance music acts in the history of the genre, you might be surprised to hear that Daft Punk have never topped Billboard's Hot 100. Until now, that is. This week, the robotic duo's collaboration with The Weeknd on "Starboy" has hit the top of the charts to claim the number one spot.

Though “Starboy” debuted at the number one spot on Billboard’s Hot 200 chart, it took 14 weeks for the collaboration to make it to the top of the Hot 100. While it’s the first time Daft Punk have been able to claim that title, it represents The Weeknd’s third number one single.

Daft Punk first found traction on the Hot 100 back in 1997 with the release of their iconic tune “Around The World,” though that song would only make it to the 61 spot. The duo’s pair up with Pharrell Williams on “Get Lucky” fared better, but despite being one of the more ubiquitous singles of 2013, it peaked at the number two spot.

Since their emergence in the nineties, Daft Punk have consistently garnered praise from critics and fans alike, and we’re glad to see them finally score a number one hit on the Hot 100.
