At the time it was seen a quite a casting coup when Marvel Studios landed Natalie Portman for the female lead role in the first Thor movie, as the actress had just won an Academy Award for Black Swan and was highly sought after for a number of projects by several different studios. Unfortunately, her character Jane Foster didn’t really make much of an impact, and despite appearing in the first sequel, Thor: The Dark World, Portman won’t reprise the role for Ragnarok.
Though fans didn’t take to Jane, it had nothing to do with the actress’ performance – the character was simply underwritten and came across as a bit bland. With this in mind, is there any chance we could see the talented star return to the MCU one day?
During a new interview with Deadline, Portman first seemed to suggest that she’d become a tad jaded with acting in big effects-driven blockbusters which require a lot of green screen work, but when asked if she’d ever consider another trip to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, she replied:
“Yeah, well, hopefully one day I figure it out.”
That’s not a definitive yes by any means, but it certainly opens the door for her to return as Jane Foster at some point in the future. Is that something fans would even care to see happen, though? Possibly, but let us know your thoughts down below!
Taika Waititi’s Thor: Ragnarok is set to hit theaters on November 3, 2017.
