Earlier today, Atlas launched a new website to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Shin Megami Tensei series. Careful inspection of the featured logo will reveal Roman numerals representing the main entries, while there’s also a symbol indicating the highly anticipated next instalment.
Back in December, Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse Producer Kazuyuki Yamai had stated that an “important milestone” for the series was coming this year. Having said that he hoped to make an announcement in 2017, could the website tease mark the early stages of that information?
More importantly, while the suggestion of a new title might not be a revelation in itself, the teaser comes just days before the big reveal of the Nintendo Switch. Of course, Shin Megami Tensei was originally a Nintendo Super Famicom release and the series always been a Nintendo mainstay, especially on Nintendo’s handheld 3DS system. Could this timely website launch suggest that the baton is to be handed over to the Switch as an exclusive moving forward? At the very least, it seems possible that the game might be incorporated as part of the upcoming console reveal/Treehouse presentation.
Shin Megami Tensei was first released in Japan on October 30th, 1992 for Super Famicom, so there is still some way to go before we reach the official anniversary. While it’s only pure conjecture at this point, that date could be the game’s intended launch window or the time at which it will be given a firm release date.
It’s still a bit too early to tell at this stage, but it doesn’t seem too far-fetched to think that Shin Megami Tensei might be bound for the Nintendo Switch in the future.
