For $14.99, you'll be able to play the off-beat, religiously themed title without having to stay rooted to your PC/console for hours on end, although there's the very real danger that you'll miss your ride home should you decide to whip out your phone in the subway. Edmund McMillen and Nicalis’ popular roguelike The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is available to download now on iOS. For $14.99, you’ll be able to play the off-beat, religiously themed title without having to stay rooted to your PC/console for hours on end, although there’s the very real danger that you’ll miss your ride home should you decide to whip out your phone in the subway. It’s just that addictive.

Having started life in 2012 as a pet project of McMillen’s following the release of Super Meat Boy, McMillen teamed up with Nicalis in 2014 to release Rebirth, a remake of sorts that brought with it new visuals, a shed-load of new items, bosses and enemies. That was followed by an expansion – Afterbirth – in 2015, with a final add-on having just launched on Steam at the start of 2017.

The iOS version sadly doesn’t include Afterbirth, but the base game should be more than enough to satiate your itch for a meaty roguelike, itself offering 10 playable characters, 50 bosses to beat and over 400 items. Due to, let’s say, the risque subject matter of Rebirth, Nicalis’ original application to get the title onto Apple’s platform was rejected due to concerns over “unsuitable content.” The request finally went through in October of last year, however.

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, Wii U and 3DS and, if that wasn’t already enough, recent comments from McMillen could well be hinting at a release on Nintendo Switch, according to Eurogamer. If that’s the case, expect more news on the port to surface later today, during or following Nintendo’s Switch presentation in Tokyo.
