A Series Of Unfortunate Events Creator Already Dreaming Up Ideas For Season 2

Series creator Daniel Handler has many more unfortunate events planned for the Baudelaire orphans, it seems.

On the eve of Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events hitting Netflix, Handler spoke to Entertainment Weekly about his high hopes for the future of Violet, Klaus, Sunny and even the dastardly Count Olaf (Neil Patrick Harris).

Currently, Netflix has commissioned a total of eight episodes, but Daniel Handler has already mapped out a ten-episode arc for season 2 that would bring A Series of Unfortunate Events in line with The Carnivorous Carnival – the ninth novel in the original YA series – before a potential third season closes the book on the Baudelaire saga, presumably once and for all. As Netflix is yet to officially renew its live-action series just yet – those relatively strong reviews leave us feeling cautiously optimistic – this is all just hearsay for now, but we’ll keep you updated as this story develops.

For now, here’s the rough vision that Handler has outlined:

“I am deep in season two. I’ve been working in my own dining room with a team of writers I’m really loving on the next season and we hope to get the go-ahead to do season 3, which given how quickly young actors age and change, we’re trying to film everything as quickly as possible. The second season is laid out to be ten episodes for the next five books, so it ends on The Carnivorous Carnival and the third season would be the rest of it.”

All eight episodes of A Series of Unfortunate Events will premiere tomorrow, January 13.
