Solo Aquaman Movie To Begin Filming By Summer 2017, And Jason Momoa Is “Really Pumped”

Chatting to The Hollywood Reporter, Jason Momoa has revealed that he expects the solo Aquaman to begin filming in four-to-five months.

Barring any last-minute reshoots, Jason Momoa has all but wrapped up his contribution to Zack Snyder’s Justice League movie ahead of its November launch, but the former Game of Thrones star is already looking forward to getting back into costume as DC’s King of the Seven.

While doing the press rounds for Netflix series Frontier, Momoa told The Hollywood Reporter that he’s “really pumped” to headline Aquaman, and expects the James Wan-directed solo movie to be in active production in the next four or five months. That’s by no means an official confirmation, but Momoa’s estimation does align with the film’s late 2018 release date.

Aiming to craft a swashbuckling adventure with his Arthur Curry origin story, Wan has made it his mission to alter the public perception of Aquaman for the good. So far, moviegoers have been given but a taste of Momoa’s Atlantean via a cameo role in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, while this year’s Justice League will seemingly set the stage for James Wan’s 2018 standalone pic.

It’s really beginning to take shape, according to Jason Momoa, who told THR that, “the standalone Aquaman movie, I’m really pumped about it. I start in four or five months so, a little bit of rest and then back into it. Justice League was amazing, but it’s going to be fun to have the arc and talk about this guy’s backstory and where he’s going.”

Arthur Curry’s solo outing has been penciled in for October 2018, and if Aquaman really does enter production in the coming months like Momoa suggests, we can expect plenty more details to emerge sooner rather than later. Justice League, meanwhile, will be with us on November 17 of this year.
