Grand Theft Auto V Resurfaces To Take No.1 In UK Games Charts

After having spent an impressive amount of time at No.1 in the UK games charts, Activision's Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare has finally been dethroned, according to GfK Chart-Track (via VG247). Instead of being replaced by one of last year's many triple-A releases, though, it's Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto V that's emerged as the current popular choice among gamers, three years after its initial launch. Released for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 back in 2013, the incredibly successful sandbox title hit Xbox One and PlayStation 4 a year later, with the long-awaited PC release following that in 2015.

After having spent an impressive amount of time at No.1 in the UK games charts, Activision’s Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare has finally been dethroned, according to GfK Chart-Track (via VG247). Instead of being replaced by one of last year’s many triple-A releases, though, it’s Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto V that’s emerged as the current popular choice among gamers, three years after its initial launch. Released for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 back in 2013, the incredibly successful sandbox title hit Xbox One and PlayStation 4 a year later, with the long-awaited PC release following that in 2015.

Last we heard, Franklin, Trevor and Michael’s crime-addled jaunt across Los Santos had shipped a whopping 65 units worldwide, but that was over a year ago, so expect the figure to be much higher now. While the franchise has always enjoyed huge success, GTA V, in particular, has (and continues to be) a runaway one, no doubt helped by its online counterpart, which continues to receive regular content updates from Rockstar.

As for the rest of this week’s big winners, FIFA 17 holds no.3, while DICE’s Battlefield 1 sits just below that at no.4. Interestingly, Xbox One titles Forza Horizon 3 and Gears of War 4 both managed to secure a place in the top 10 this week, coming in at no.5 and no.10 respectively.

There’s no telling how long Rockstar plans to keep supporting GTA Online in the future, but with Red Dead Redemption 2 slated for release later this year, it could well be that focus switches to the sequel when it launches, especially if it has an online component as immersive as Grand Theft Auto V‘s.
