Based on David Grann’s non-fiction bestseller of the same name, The Lost City of Z follows British explorer Percy Fawcett (Hunnam) at the dawn of the 20th century, as he journeys the Amazon wilderness to discover stirring evidence of a previously unknown civilization. Percy’s adoring wife (Sienna Miller) encourages him, his son (Holland) joins him, and a bearded aide de camp (Pattinson) help him along his travels, which provides suspense, intrigue and mystery.

The Lost City of Z made its way into several festivals last fall, including NYFF, which is where our own Lauren Humphries-Brooks caught Grey’s latest. Her response was fairly underwhelming though, as she admitted in her review that “despite gorgeous cinematography and a strong cast,” the movie is “a shallow and overly romantic film that falls into the trap of hero worship.” What a pity.

If you care to see if you disagree with her assessment, you won’t have to wait too long. The romantic dramatization enters British cinemas on March 24. From there, it’ll find a limited U.S. release in LA and New York on April 14, before it comes out nationwide on April 21.
