Warner Bros. is starting to kick the marketing campaign for Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur: Legend of the Sword into high gear. Following the release of several new photos – which Entertainment Weekly debuted yesterday and can be seen in the gallery above – we’ve now got a brand new poster as well, featuring Charlie Hunnam front and center.

Boasting the tagline “From Nothing Comes A King,” it promise a gritty and visceral take on the classic tale, one which will apparently bring with it a “contemporary, selfish, [and] somewhat rough around the edges” version of the titular character. In fact, Ritchie’s upcoming effort has been pitched as Lord Of The Rings meets Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels. An unusual mix, to be sure, but if there’s anyone who can pull it off, it’s the Snatch director.

At least, we hope he can pull it off. After all, Legend of the Sword is being positioned as the first chapter in a series which could spawn up to five sequels, if all goes well. It’s an ambitious plan, but an exciting one, too, and we can’t wait to see how it all unfolds once the film lands in theaters in a few months from now. With the current cinematic climate being what it is, where the majority of franchises revolve around comic book properties, it’ll certainly be refreshing to get something a bit different. Don’t you think?

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword stars Hunnam, Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) as Guinevere and Jude Law (HBO’s The Young Pope) as the villainous Vortigern. It’ll be with us on May 12th.
