Martin Freeman, Chadwick Boseman And More Spotted On Black Panther Set

When Marvel kicked off Phase 3 of the MCU with Captain America: Civil War, it seemed to be Tom Holland’s Spider-Man who stole the show. And while the new version of the web-head did impress just about everyone, there was also another character who made a huge impact on audiences: Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa, aka Black Panther.

Now, after making his presence felt in a big way, the hero is about to receive a large part of the Marvel spotlight, what with a brand new comic book coming soon as well as his own feature film, which has already entered production. To prove it, Just Jared has snapped some set photos of a few of the cast members, including Boseman, Lupita Nyong’o (Nakia), Danai Gurira (Okoye), and Martin Freeman (Everett K. Ross). There’s nothing revealing here, as the actors are in regular clothing presumably heading off to work, but it’s a nice reminder that filming is underway.

Of all the Marvel projects currently in the pipeline, Black Panther is one of the ones that we know the least about. We’ve been promised something special, and the talent assembled here certainly indicates that will be true, but the film is still very much shrouded in secrecy. That being said, Boseman has mentioned in the past to expect something a bit grittier than what’s come before, revealing the following in a recent interview:

“It’s funny, because on one hand, the Marvel movies that I’ve liked the most are the ones that are funny. I love “Ant-Man.” But for me, most of the time the darker superhero movies are the ones that I gravitate towards, that I love the most. So I’m glad that I’m not in an “Ant-Man.” I’m glad that the tone of [“Black Panther”] may be a little grittier. I just wanted to establish that from the beginning, that that’s what we were doing. That that’s what I intend to do. I feel like we’ll end up in a place that I’ve always wanted to be when I look at superhero movies. Those are the ones I like the most. It’s exciting to do that.”

Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther will claw its way into theaters on February 16th, 2018 and aside from the cast members mentioned above, it’ll feature Michael B. Jordan, Forest Whitaker, Andy Serkis, Angela Bassett, Sterling K. Brown and more.
