Second Collaboration Between Square, Eidos And Marvel Reportedly Involves Guardians Of The Galaxy

Eidos has already drafted up plans for not only The Avengers, but a second Marvel collaboration that reportedly involves the Guardians of the Galaxy.

The Deus Ex franchise has officially been placed on hiatus, that much we know – however, it appears the developer behind the cult cyberpunk series Eidos Montreal has already drafted up plans for not only The Avengers Project, but a second Marvel collaboration that involves the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Word comes by way of Eurogamer, noting that Eidos is lending a helping hand to Crystal Dynamics’ Avengers project and, according to sources close to publisher Square Enix, is in the “early stages of production on the second Marvel game based around Guardians of the Galaxy.” If true, this would bring the total number of titles in development at the Canadian studio to three, given Eidos is also working on the next installment in Square’s rebooted Tomb Raider franchise, one that’s purportedly titled Shadow of the Tomb Raider.

All of this means Deus Ex will likely be collecting dust on the proverbial shelf for quite some time. Eidos Montreal made no mention of the alleged Guardians of the Galaxy project in its statement today (via Eurogamer), instead stressing its ongoing commitment to the dormant Deus Ex series.

“While we are still working on expanding the Deus Ex Universe, along with creating new content and updates for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, we’re also devoting our talents towards working with Crystal Dynamics and Marvel on The Avengers project.”

Assuming this report holds true, Eidos Montreal’s Guardians of the Galaxy game will surely have no affiliation to Telltale’s episodic take on Star-Lord and his fellow intergalactic bandits. That game is reportedly due to premiere in April, just in time for James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 slamming into theaters on May 5th.
