SFX Cover For Kong: Skull Island Pays Homage To One Of Cinema’s Great Movie Monsters

1933. That's the year King Kong first roared onto the big screen and since then, the film landscape has never quite been the same. Indeed few movie monsters hold a candle to the enduring legacy of the iconic Kong, who so famously scaled the Empire State Building in Merian C. Cooper and Ernest B. Schoedsack's age-old classic before beauty ultimately killed the beast. But it'll take more than just romance to topple the 100ft behemoth in Kong: Skull Island.

Pegged for release on March 10th, Jordan Vogt-Roberts’ lavish creature feature is set to introduce moviegoers to Kong like they’ve never seen him before. Housed up on the primordial Skull Island right around the time of the Vietnam War, King Kong is more akin to a lonely god than anything else. However, you don’t go into someone’s home unless you’re picking a fight, which is a harsh truth that Tom Hiddleston and Brie Larson’s intrepid explorers will learn the hard way.

Also on board for that (one-way?) voyage to Skull Island are Samuel L. Jackson, John Goodman, John C. Reilly, Tian Jing, Corey Hawkins, Jason Mitchell, John Ortiz, Thomas Mann, Shea Whigham, Toby Kebbell and Eugene Cordero.

It’s the place where myth and science meet and soon, director Jordan Vogt-Roberts will unleash Kong: Skull Island on the moviegoing masses. March 10 is the date for your diaries. Beyond that, Legendary and Warner have also nailed down release plans for Godzilla: King of the Monsters, which just recently added Stranger Things breakout Millie Bobby Brown ahead of its arrival on March 22nd, 2019.

Meanwhile, the mighty Kong Vs. Godzilla is also on the horizon, though given Gojira looks set to return in two years’ time, Legendary’s initial 2020 release window for its titanic crossover is tentative at best.
