Hacksaw Ridge duo Mel Gibson and Vince Vaughn are set to reteam for Dragged Across Concrete, a crime drama centering on the thorny, all-too-timely issue of police brutality.

The Hollywood Reporter has the scoop, confirming that Gibson and Vaughn have signed on to play two mismatched brothers in blue who find themselves “suspended when a video of their strong-arm tactics become the media’s cause du jour.” Stripped of their badges, Dragged Across Concrete then sees Gibson and Vaughn’s volatile officers descend into a criminal underworld to exact vengeance. S. Craig Zahler of Bone Tomahawk fame is attached to direct, who last collaborated with Vince Vaughn for the prison-set thriller Brawl in Cell Block 99. No word on a release date for that one just yet.

Circling back to Dragged Across Concrete, though, it’s understood Bloom will commence international sales at the upcoming European Film Market in Berlin, with the early logline teasing a button-pressing thriller involving “an old-timer (Gibson), the other his volatile younger partner (Vaughn), who find themselves suspended when a video of their strong-arm tactics become the media’s cause du jour. Low on cash and with no other options, these two embittered soldiers descend into the criminal underworld to gain their just due, but instead find far more than they wanted awaiting them in the shadows.”

Two shunned police officers uncovering more than what they bargained far isn’t exactly a pitch to set the world alight, but with Vince Vaughn and Mel Gibson attached – not to mention the addition of Zahler – Dragged Across Concrete has us feeling cautiously optimistic.
