Today we get a new look (seen below) at Karl Urban as Judge Dredd. Going under the title of DreddPete Travis’ remake is currently shooting but doesn’t yet have a release date in the United States. The UK is said to be getting the film in December (of this year) but that hasn’t been confirmed for the U.S. yet.

The original Judge Dredd came out back in 1995 and was a cheesy, over the top, typical Sylvester Stallone flick that didn’t do too well critically or commercially. Dredd is said to be unrelated to the 1995 film and will instead use the original British comic as its inspiration.

It seems like they’re trying to distance themselves as much as possible from the 1995 original, which is why the went with the name change. And honestly, I can’t blame then. Judge Dredd wasn’t exactly a highlight in Stallone’s career but that being said, if you take it for what it is, you may find minimal enjoyment in it.

Without seeing any footage for Travis’ version, it’s hard to tell if it will fare better than the Stallone pic. Karl Urban isn’t all that bad though and I’m interested to see this new take on the classic comic book hero.

For now, I’ll remain optimistic. What about you? Looking forward to this one?

DREDD takes us to the wild streets of Mega City One, the lone oasis of quasi-civilization on Cursed Earth. Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) is the most feared of elite Street Judges, with the power to enforce the law, sentence offenders and execute them on the spot – if necessary. The endlessly inventive mind of writer Alex Garland and the frenetic vision of director Peter Travis bring DREDD to life as a futuristic neo-noir action film that returns the celebrated character to the dark, visceral incarnation from John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra’s revered comic strip.
