As a matter of fact, Paramount has been drumming up excitement for its 2017 slate for a while now. Ghost in the Shell and Transformers: The Last Knight, arguably the studio’s two biggest tentpoles of 2017, have each received blink-and-you’ll-miss-them promos in anticipation of tonight’s main event. Now, it’s time for the real deal.

Building on the momentum from previous trailer reveals, we now have what is undoubtedly the best look at Transformers: The Last Knight to date. Set soon after Paramount’s Age of Extinction, Michael Bay’s fifth entry into the blockbuster franchise tees up a heart-wrenching clash between old friends and new – namely Bumblebee and Optimus Prime, as it looks as though the latter is operating under the influence of Unicron. Toss in a medieval plot line involving the great King Arthur (Liam Garrigan) and you have all the makings of a gripping popcorn movie for the whole family. But will Bay’s sequel fare well with critics? Time will tell.

Transformers: The Last Knight descends into theaters on June 23rd and heralds a new beginning for Paramount’s live-action juggernaut. Tapping into the studio’s newfound writers room, the Powers That Be have mapped out tentative plans for a Bumblebee spinoff in 2018, before circling back to the mainline series with a sixth Transformers movie the following year. As is so often the case, it remains to be seen whether Michael Bay will return at the helm, but we’ll notify you if and when we learn more.
