As The Divergent Series draws to a truncated conclusion, one which will reportedly unfold on the small screen as opposed to its cinematic predecessors, lead star Shailene Woodley is beginning to cast the net in search of new roles. Last we reported on Lionsgate’s proposed TV finale, Woodley expressed reservations about the reconfigured fourth installment, before conceding that the studio is still in the process of finalizing negotiations with its leading cast.

Still nothing to report on that front just yet, but we do have some exciting news beyond the confines of Veronica Roth’s YA series. According to Deadline, the Shailene Woodley-led survival pic Adrift is on the verge of landing a distribution deal with STX Entertainment. Pitched as “Gravity on the high seas,” Woodley first came attached to the project late last year alongside director Baltasar Kormákur.

Based on the true story of Tami Oldham and her fiance Richard Sharp, Shailene Woodley climbed on board to play the former sailor who “after being knocked unconscious by the most massive hurricane in the history of the Pacific Ocean, awakens to find her fiancé Richard Sharp badly injured, their boat in ruins, and no means of communication or navigation. As memories of how she wound up there begin to come back, and with 1,500 miles to the nearest port, Tami must race against the clock to save herself and the only man she’s ever loved.”

STX plans to introduce Adrift to potential buyers at Berlin’s European Film Market later this week, so we’ll be keeping a close eye on the Woodley-fronted thriller as the project begins to coalesce. Ascendant, meanwhile, is without an official release date at the moment.
