Following hot on the heels of that photo of Scott Eastwood all suited up for Pacific Rim: Uprising, as well as some set snaps, John Boyega has taken to Twitter tonight to share what appears to be our first official look at the upcoming sequel, which is currently shooting ahead of its February 23rd, 2018 release.

Accompanying the picture, which doesn’t give us much at all as it simply shows the actor sitting in a dark room of some sort, was the following caption: “I am Pentecost 2018 #PacificRimUprising,” confirming that he’ll be playing the son of Stacker Pentecost. If the name doesn’t ring a bell (though it really should), we’re referring to Idris Elba’s character from the original. You know, the one who declared that they were “cancelling the apocalypse.” Yeah, now you remember.

That aside, there’s not much we can take from this first look. Admittedly, it’s pretty underwhelming, but given that the film is still deep in production, we shouldn’t expect too much just yet. If nothing else, the release of the pic means that the studio is gearing up to start the marketing campaign and that could indicate that a trailer is only a few months away now.

Joining Boyega and Eastwood for the super-sized sequel are Jing Tian, Lana Condor, Cailee Spaeny, Adria Arjona and Ukrainian up-and-comer Ivanna Sakhno. Daredevil showrunner Steven S. DeKnight is behind the camera here, replacing original director Guillermo del Toro. Don’t worry though, as he’s still returning, only this time in a producing capacity.

Pacific Rim: Uprising will attempt to fend off a whole new wave of Kaiju when it charges into theaters on February 23rd, 2018.
