After appearing in two huge blockbusters in the form of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and X-Men: Apocalypse, it looks like Oscar Isaac is hoping to get back to some smaller scale stuff. Sure, he does have Star Wars: The Last Jedi releasing at the end of the year, but he’s also lent his talents to Annihilation and Suburbicon recently. The former sees him reteam with his Ex Machina director Alex Garland, while the latter has him working under George Clooney.
Both projects sound tremendously promising and today, the actor has signed on for another exciting film in the form of The Garbo Network. Arriving courtesy of Bob Cooper and Richard Saperstein’s Storyscape Entertainment, the spy thriller is coming together at the Berlin Film Festival as we speak, where perspective buyers will look to pick it up. No word on that front has emerged just yet, but from what we understand, William Wheeler is behind the script.
[zergpaid]Set during WWII, The Garbo Network is a true story and will see Isaac play Juan Pujol Garcia, an “eccentric double-agent who, with no military or covert training, somehow persuaded both the Germans and the British to hire him as a spy. As it turned out, his real allegiance was to England, and working closely with MI5, he created a fictional network of 27 spies said to be spread out over England, Scotland, and Ireland. His ruse enabled the English to deceive the Germans about the invasion of Normandy.”
Sounds like a thrilling story and one that would make for a fantastic film in the right hands. With Isaac now on board, we imagine this one will come together rather quickly. After all, he’s one of the hottest stars in Hollywood at the moment and given his increasingly busy schedule, seeing him sign on here means that it’s obviously something special. As such, we expect it to have no trouble finding a buyer.
