Over the past few years, Marvel has made a big effort to push Captain Marvel‘s comic book adventures. Now, her profile will once again increase when she makes her presence felt in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The character is expected to appear in Avengers: Infinity War before her own solo adventure, but is actress Brie Larson feeling the pressure in the lead up to her big debut?
With no Black Widow movie in the works, it will be down to Larson to deliver when it comes to being the first female Marvel superhero to take the lead in and adventure of their own, and in a recent chat with Total Film Magazine, the Kong: Skull Island star acknowledged the fact that she knows it’s important that she gets Captain Marvel right.
“I have so many conversations with fans about the universe and this character in particular. I’m grateful for social media for that, actually—it’s such a great way to connect with people, to understand what it is they love about this character, what it is they hope to see. Where this character’s at in the comic books is such an inspiring space, right now. I’m so grateful to be part of it.”
Adding that she feels “a great responsibility,” it’s clear that Larson knows just how much scrutiny she’ll be under when Captain Marvel is released. For example, if Wonder Woman is a hit, this movie will need to top that, and if it’s a flop, all eyes will be on Captain Marvel to prove that female-led superhero films can actually work.
Bear in mind that Larson is an Oscar-winning actress and fans have already embraced her casting, so chances are that she stands a very, very good chance of making a significant impact as Captain Marvel in the MCU over the next few years, much like both Black Panther and Doctor Strange have recently.
