The Bad Batch Trailer: Jason Momoa, Keanu Reeves And Suki Waterhouse Head For A Cannibal-Infested Wasteland

Jason Momoa, Keanu Reeves and Suki Waterhouse head for a cannibal wasteland in the tense first trailer for The Bad Batch.

It’s going on three years since writer-director Ana Lily Amirpour made a splash with her feature film debut, A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night. Pitched as the first “Iranian vampire spaghetti western,” Amirpour’s thriller was a genre oddball that went on to win a handful of prestigious awards, most notably the Revelations Prize at 2014’s Deauville Film Festival.

Not one to rest on her laurels, Amirpour is back, back, back with The Bad Batch, a “post-apocalyptic cannibal love story set in a Texas wasteland.” Proving that the filmmaker hasn’t lost her knack for genre oddballs, up above you’ll find the film’s truly wild first trailer, which jumps from romance to drama to full-blown cannibal horror all in the space of two minutes.

Headed up by Jason Momoa, John Wick: Chapter 2 star Keanu Reeves, Giovanni Ribisi, Jim Carrey and newcomer Suki Waterhouse, The Bad Batch largely revolves around the latter’s attempted escape from a twisted band of cannibals out in the Texas wasteland. Toss in a pulsing electronic soundtrack and a rousing speech from a deluded Reeves and you’ll get a sense of what to expect from Amirpour’s latest creative venture.

Ana Lily Amirpour introduces moviegoers to The Bad Batch on June 23rd. Curious to know how the director’s sophomore effort stacks up? Look no further than our official review from TIFF 2016.

The highly anticipated follow-up to Amirpour’s acclaimed directorial debut, A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night, The Bad Batch follows Arlen (Waterhouse) as she is unceremoniously dumped in a Texas wasteland fenced off from civilized society. While trying to orient her unforgiving environment, she is captured by a savage band of cannibals and quickly realizes she’ll have to fight her way through her new reality. As Arlen adjusts to life in ‘the bad batch’ she discovers that being good or bad mostly depends on who you’re standing next to.
