Star Wars: The Last Jedi Plot Rumors Tease Finn’s New Mission

Up until now, most of the previous plot rumors we've heard about Rian Johnson's Star Wars: The Last Jedi have, understandably, focused on Luke Skywalker and his (likely) new force-welding apprentice, Rey. However, thanks to the guys over at MakingStarwars.net we have some possible details on what former First Order Stormtrooper turned Resistance fighter, Finn (John Boyega), is going to be up to in the follow-up to J.J. Abrams' The Force Awakens.

According to the site, Finn will be tasked with infiltrating a new type of Super Star Destroyer while disguised as a First Order Officer. No reason for this specific mission is provided, but he’s expected to be accompanied by the mysterious new character played by Kelly Marie Tran. Plus, it’s assumed that this is where Finn will encounter Mad Max: Fury Road actor Tom Hardy (who is rumored to make a cameo as a Stormtrooper), who recognizes his former brother-in-arms and congratulates him on his promotion.

Why the Resistance would risk sending a known First Order traitor back into the belly of the beast is a mystery, but perhaps news of the former FN-2187’s defection hasn’t reached all corners of the galaxy yet. It could also have something to do with Finn being the only man for the job after the injuries he sustained during his battle with Kylo Ren in The Force Awakens. Rumor has it that his recovery involves some time spent in a “bacta suit,” which not only regenerates him, but leaves him feeling stronger than ever before.

We’ll have to take all of this with that ever-ready pinch salt for now, or course, but hopefully we’ll get some official info on Finn’s Episode VIII arc when that first teaser finally debuts in a few months’ time.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is set to blast into theaters on December 15th.
