Chances are that James McAvoy will continue playing the younger Charles Xavier, but that doesn’t mean we won’t see more of Stewart’s version, which is something the actor was keen to point out in a recent interview. Asked specifically if he’s walking away from the powerful psychic mutant after Logan, the legendary thesp replied:

“Hugh has raised the flag that says goodbye. I haven’t done that yet.”

Stewart first played Professor X in the original X-Men movie way back in 2000, and has since shown up in all but a few releases set in this cinematic universe. Wanting to stick around a little longer is certainly understandable, though with the future of the franchise quite unclear following the mixed response to X-Men: Apocalypse, how he can factor into the next instalment is hard to say.

The fact that Stewart’s still excited and interested in the role though is nice to hear, especially as so many actors seemingly sign on to superhero movies for the pay cheque alone. Chances are that Professor X could show up on our screens again somewhere down the road, but for now, we’ll look forward to finding out what’s in store for him when James Mangold’s Logan arrives in theaters next month.
