A new report from Reel News Hawaii suggests Marvel is beginning to make serious headway on a live-action movie based on Namor The Sub-Mariner.

First spotted by Screen Rant, today’s fleeting tidbit hails from RNH’s Twitter feed, which claims that Hawaii is about to play host to two rival superhero productions in the not-so-distant future. The first is James Wan’s Aquaman solo movie, which will be summoned in front of the cameras this April ahead of its release in October 2018, while the second is reportedly the long-rumored Namor feature film.

Incidentally, the volcanic state already has a Marvel project in its midst in the form of The Inhumans, which is incubating in production ahead of a premiere on ABC – and select IMAX theaters – this fall. Indeed, Reel News Hawaii allegedly caught wind of this fresh Namor rumor from unnamed Marvel sources. The latter is yet to announce anything official, so treat this piece of speculation as just that for the time being.

Per Twitter:

Assuming RNH’s findings are on point, it would all but confirm that the rights for Namor The Sub-Mariner are back at Marvel, after they initially leased the character to Universal all those years ago. It’s a strategy that the lucrative studio has executed before rather brilliantly; after all, Spidey was housed up at Sony’s film arm before the two parties reached a licensing agreement, and so we stand on the brink of Jon Watts’ rebooted Spider-Man: Homecoming. Will lightning strike twice for Marvel Studios? Time will tell.

What are your thoughts on this latest development? Indeed, do you think Namor The Sub-Mariner is a character befitting of a live-action adaptation? Let us know in the usual spot below.
