Final Power Rangers Trailer Can’t Figure Out If It’s Iron Man Or Spider-Man

If you didn't know any better, you'd assume next month kicked off the summer. Between Logan, Beauty and the Beast, Kong: Skull Island and Ghost in the Shell, it's filled with tons of blockbusters, and that's without mentioning Power Rangers. Director Dean Israelite's revamped reboot is a younger, slicker take on the corny children's TV series, and this final trailer isn't afraid to flaunt that.

The new one-minute teaser favors jokes as much as it does the goofy, larger-than-life action, and while it’s unclear if the final product will work, it looks like the filmmakers took a tongue-in-cheek approach here. What a relief. While screenwriter Max Landis is given a writing credit, his script was ultimately discarded – though you might think otherwise, with the film seemingly mimicking Chronicle just as much as it does Iron Man.

At the very least, we get a better glimpse at Bryan Cranston’s Zordon and Bill Hader’s Alpha 5 here, as well as Elizabeth Banks’ Rita Repulsa. We also get to see the new Rangers, including Naomi Scott, Dacre Montgomery, Becky G., Ludi Lin and RJ Cyler. Indeed, this final trailer should give fans a clear picture of what’s in store for them with the latest Power Rangers reimagining, for better or worse.

For me, personally, it doesn’t do much. While it’s thankfully not taking itself too seriously, it also feels a little shallow. There might be more heart and wit in the final product, but right now, this trailer doesn’t give me any emotional investment of any sort. Hopefully, I’ll feel otherwise when I actually see the film, but I can’t say I’m feeling too optimistic at the moment.

Power Rangers morphs into theaters on March 24th. Check out the new preview above, along with a recently released TV spot below, and let us know what you make of the upcoming reboot.
