At this point, who doesn’t want to join the Marvel Cinematc Universe? Nearly every actor and their brother are either already in the ongoing massive franchise, in some capacity or another, or vying to get into it. Donnie Yen finds himself in the latter category, and alongside his loyal fans, he’s campaigning to work his way into the MCU as Namor the Sub-Mariner, who might just get his own film in the near future.
In light of recent reports suggesting the superhero movie’s potential existence, Yen’s fans have begun Tweeting photos of the popular actor alongside comic book stills of the character, which the martial arts actor has Re-Tweeted throughout the day. That doesn’t necessarily mean he’s ruthlessly gunning for the job, but it does suggest that he’s, at the very least, interested in the project.

Of course, it’d make sense if Yen earned the gig. The actor’s profile rose significantly these past few months, thanks to prominent roles in blockbusters like Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and xXx: Return of Xander Cage. Neither necessarily gave him the calling card he truly, desperately deserves in America, but they were both strong steps forward.
Of course, Yen’s not the only actor trying to slip through Marvel’s door with Namor the Sub-Mariner. Brian Tee, best known for playing Shredder in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, also expressed interest in the Imperius Rex. In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Tee offered his own thoughts on playing the comic book character on the big screen.
You know what’s funny is my career I’ve kind of played villains, guys with attitude, guys with chips on their shoulders, um, in reading the comics books and being a fan of Namor, that’s kind of this guy’s persona. Even though he’s a hero or a quote unquote good guy. He’s kind of a bit of an anti-hero with a bit of an edge, and I feel like I kind of fall in that line, especially with other things that I’ve done. So that’s the kind of aspect that I would love to bring into Namor.
