While J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and even Gareth Edwards’ Rogue One: A Star Wars Story to some extent, fell victim to numerous leaks during production, Disney tightened up security tremendously for Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and even though the film is now only about 10 months away, we still know next to nothing about it. Plot details are scarce and a number of the roles haven’t been revealed yet.
One of the more mysterious casting additions throughout production has always been Benicio del Toro. Fans have put forth theory after theory all trying to figure out who the esteemed actor might be playing, but no one’s cracked the case just yet. Until now, that is.
YouTube user Mike Zeroh claims to have stumbled upon something very interesting, as he tells us that del Toro was originally listed on Wikiwand.com as playing Vikrum Fett. The listing was quickly changed to read TBA, but it was up long enough to send fans into a frenzy, and understandably so.
Vikrum Fett could very well be the son of Boba Fett, who was featured in the original trilogy. A fan-favorite and one of the more intriguing figures of the Star Wars universe, he was actually set to get his own spinoff at one point, and still may. We would caution taking this Wikiwand listing with a pinch of salt, as it’s far from official, but bringing a Fett into the new trilogy certainly sounds plausible, not to mention that it’s something fans would love to see. Plus, it’s important to remember that del Toro has been rumored to be playing a villainous character several times in the past – so who knows? Honestly, we wouldn’t bet against this.
Of course, Vikrum could be related to Boba in another way. Perhaps he’s a nephew or grandson? Right now, we can’t say for sure. To have him factor into the film though would certainly be exciting and seeing an actor like del Toro bring the character to life would be a real treat. We likely won’t know if there’s any truth to this or not until Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theaters, but for now, you can definitely color us intrigued.
