Empire Magazine recently debuted a new image of Johansson’s Major (Major Motoko Kusanagi in the original story) sitting on a souped-up motorcycle, and now they’ve published their full interview with the hugely in-demand actress. During their discussion with her, The Avengers star provides readers with an insight into her character: a cyborg crime-fighter created for warfare, who still retains her human “soul.”

She’s living a unique experience, as somebody who has an idea of who she thinks she was, and then who she is now, and the person that she feels she is, this sort of gnawing feeling she has in her ghost. Being able to play those three sides: the ego, the superego and the id… That was pretty enticing.

The previous, animated/artistic interpretations of The Major are depicted fully naked at certain times, but the movie got around that by fitting Johansson with a flesh-toned silicone camouflage suit. Even still, it doesn’t sound like it was a particularly comfortable experience for the actress:

I don’t wear that too often, thankfully. It’s hot where you don’t want it to be and cold where you don’t want it to be.

We can already hear the fanboys organizing protests.

Ghost in the Shell is set to hit theaters on March 31st and co-stars Michael Pitt, Pilou Asbæk, Juliette Binoche and more.
