Rumour has it that we’ll see a member of the Green Lantern Corps show up in Justice League later this year, but it sadly won’t be Hal Jordan or John Stewart that makes their presence felt. However, rumours continue to swirl about who will be cast as those two, with Moonlight‘s Trevante Rhodes among those named as being eyed for the role of the latter.
MTV News caught up with the star of the Oscar-winning movie on the red carpet this past weekend and asked him directly if he has his eye on a role in a superhero film. Now that there’s no longer a stigma surrounding comic book adaptations, he’s understandably keen to join one should the opportunity present itself, as it did for his Moonlight co-star Mahershala Ali (Luke Cage).
“That is something that’s really enticing, but more so because it puts my face in front of more people, who will want to [then] come and see a movie, like Moonlight, that I really care about,” said Rhodes.
Asked specifically whether Green Lantern Corps could be one of the projects he has his eye on, Rhodes grinned and coyly responded, “I don’t know.” Does that mean he’s going to play the character? It might be a tad too soon to assume that, but this is definitely interesting. It could be that Rhodes has no idea who John Stewart even is, of course, but as it’s such a hot role in Hollywood at the moment, you can’t blame him for being careful about what he says here, right?
Either way, he’d be a great fit for Green Lantern Corps, but with the movie still so far off, it’ll likely be some time before we get anything in the way of official casting announcements. As always though, we’ll keep you posted.
