Toby Kebbell Would Play Doctor Doom Again, If Marvel Has The Rights

It really is a shame what happened with the Fantastic Four reboot. You had a promising, young director at the helm, with an impressive cast set to bring the titular family to life. All signs pointed to an exciting new take on the property, but then the film hit theaters.

What went wrong, you ask? Well, just about everything, actually. One of the biggest disappointments though was the way the villain, Doctor Doom, was handled. While Toby Kebbell didn’t necessarily do a bad job in the role, the reshoots ended up cutting a lot of his scenes, leaving the character as a pretty underwhelming antagonist in the final product.

That hasn’t deterred the actor from one day reprising the part, though, as he recently told Hey U Guys that he’s still interested in revisiting the role. Though he noted that he won’t return for the Fantastic Four sequel, which is still on the cards, he said that Doctor Doom is “an incredible bad guy” and he’s just being used incorrectly.

“Truth is, Doom is an incredible bad guy. They just keep trying to force him into the Fantastic Four. They just need to move it out because he smashes up Thor and Iron Man and they get wasted. Doom is a monster, but my Doom was not, so that is that.”

When asked if he would consider coming back then if Marvel were to regain the rights to the villain, Kebbell said the following:

“Yeah, if they lend him out like a footballer. They did it with Spider-Man!”

Whether or not the studio will ever get a hold of the Fantastic Four again remains to be seen, but it’s not looking likely, as Fox has made it clear that they intend to push ahead with a sequel and try to get things right, yet again. Perhaps if their next attempt fails then they’ll hand Marvel’s First Family back over, but in the meantime, it appears as if Reed Richards and co. aren’t going anywhere. Which means that you shouldn’t expect to see Toby Kebbell back as Doctor Doom in the inevitable Fantastic Four 2.
