While we occasionally get to see shortlists of actors being considered for a role, it’s more common for us to never know just how many different stars were in talks to play certain characters.
Case in point: A lot of names are doing the rounds right now for Cable in Deadpool 2, and the latest one to have emerged is Stranger Things actor David Harbour. However, another report reveals that Man of Steel‘s Michael Shannon was also briefly in the running to play the character before being forced to pass due to scheduling issues. There’s nothing to say that he would have ultimately got the part, of course, but it would have been a great bit of casting and a perfect opportunity for the Deadpool sequel to poke fun at Superman’s last solo movie.
The casting process for Cable seems to be moving extremely slow at the moment, but considering the fact that the character will likely play a huge role in the X-Men Universe going forward, that’s understandable. After all, we can probably expect him to show up in X-Force as well as becoming a regular in the Deadpool franchise, so obviously the studio wants to make sure they get the right guy.
If there’s one thing we’ve learned over the years, it’s to never say never, and it’s still entirely possible that Shannon could land the role. We have no idea when Deadpool 2 starts shooting, so those scheduling issues might just vanish if the movie is delayed. Time will tell, right?
