Michael K. Williams Could Be Playing The Villain In Han Solo Spinoff

Disney's Han Solo spinoff is now in production and it seems that the final piece of the casting puzzle has fallen into place. Earlier this week, we learned that Boardwalk Empire star Michael K. Williams had landed a pivotal role in the spinoff, joining a roster that already boasts Alden Ehrenreich, Donald Glover, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke and more. Unfortunately, the report didn't provide too many details, but now we're hearing that Williams may actually be the villain of the film.

Disney’s Han Solo spinoff is now in production and it seems that the final piece of the casting puzzle has fallen into place. Earlier this week, we learned that Boardwalk Empire star Michael K. Williams had landed a pivotal role in the spinoff, joining a roster that already boasts Alden Ehrenreich, Donald Glover, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke and more. Unfortunately, the report didn’t provide too many details on his role, but now we’re hearing that Williams may actually be the villain of the film.

Variety’s Justin Kroll is the one with the scoop here, telling us that his sources say the actor will be portraying an antagonist in the upcoming project, but wouldn’t reveal anything else. Given some of the roles we’ve seen Michael K. Williams slip into in the past, we’d certainly buy him as the bad guy and would be all for seeing him tackle such a part. Whether this villain is a character who already exists in the Star Wars universe or one that directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller are going to make up from scratch remains to be seen, but it’s is an intriguing rumor regardless.

So far, the Han Solo spinoff has been described as both a heist and western movie, while DP Bradford Young has also teased it as being funny, dramatic and unexpected. That’s all well and good, but we still haven’t heard anything about the plot yet and understandably, that’s what fans are most eager for. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like Disney’s ready to reveal too much at the moment – after all, they haven’t even announced a title for the damn thing – but with both Star Wars Celebration and D23 on the way, the lid may be peeled back before too long.

For now though, there’s plenty of reasons to be excited about the Han Solo spinoff. With two of Hollywood’s most promising directors steering the ship and a cast full of talented individuals set to bring the Anthology film to life, everything seems to point to this project being yet another strong outing for a franchise that can seemingly do no wrong right now.
