Logan Director James Mangold Explains The Lack Of A Post-Credits Scene

Thanks to Marvel Studios, post-credits scenes are all the rage these days, but Logan didn’t include one (despite rumours to the contrary). There are many directions such an extra could have taken, whether it was teasing a possible return for Wolverine or even the debut of Mister Sinister, but James Mangold chose to leave it off the table.

Now, in a recent interview with The Toronto Sun, the director has shed some light on his reasoning behind not giving Wolverine’s final adventure any sort of sequel set-up or extra scene after the credits had rolled.

“The only way we came out with a different movie was trying to do it differently. So I was pretty fanatical about saying, ‘If this is how these other movies are doing it, we’re going the other way.’ If there’s normally a cameo or an end-credit scene, we’re not doing that. That’s essentially turning it into a product that has to come out of the widget machine the same way every time and that’s not how the best movies are going to get made… in any genre.”

It’s easy enough to understand where the Logan filmmaker is coming from here, but it seems strange to make such an effort to move away from the superhero genre when this movie fits so perfectly into it. There’s a reason fans love post-credits scenes and not including one just to be different and stand out almost seems pointless. That being said, if the team working on the threequel couldn’t think of something appropriate or simply felt it would have been tacked on for the sake of it, it’s hard to be too critical.

What do you think, though? Are you disappointed that Logan didn’t feature a post-credits scene? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
