On the eve of its presentation at PAX East, developer Telltale Games has today unveiled the stunning first images for its Guardians of the Galaxy series.
First announced at The Game Awards back in December, the studio’s serialized spin on the Marvel motley crew takes a leaf out of James Gunn’s book in that it follows the adventures of Star-Lord and the gang “from Earth to the Milano to Knowhere and beyond.” The similarities end there, however, as Telltale’s five-part Guardians of the Galaxy saga features a totally original story for the universe’s unlikeliest heroes.
Little is currently known about the game’s actual plot, but now that the first screenshots are out in the wild, we fully expect Telltale to roll out a teaser trailer – and possibly lock down a release date – in the Albatross Theatre tomorrow, March 10th. One thing we do know for sure, is the actors and actresses on board to bring the Guardians of the Galaxy to life. For one, Scott Porter will lend his voice to Star-Lord (AKA Peter Quill), while there are also roles for Emily O’Brien (Gamora), Uncharted alum Nolan North (Rocket Raccoon), Brandon Paul Eells (Drax) and Adam Harrington (Groot).
Guardians of the Galaxy is the latest licensed series from Telltale Games, and it follows in the footsteps of The Walking Dead, Batman, Borderlands, and many more. There’s currently no mention of a specific premiere date, but with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 booked in for May 5th, common logic dictates that Telltale will strike while the iron is hot and premiere its spinoff series just prior to the moment when James Gunn’s cinematic sequel lights up theaters.
Remember, Telltale’s PAX East panel kicks off on Friday, March 10th at 6pm ET, where GotG will no doubt be in attendance ahead of its planned showcase at SXSW 2017 next week.
“Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series delivers a brand new story of the universe’s unlikeliest heroes, the rag-tag band of outlaws who go by the names Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Groot. In the wake of an epic battle, the Guardians discover an artifact of unspeakable power. Each of the Guardians has a reason to desire this relic, as does a ruthless enemy who is the last of her kind, and who will stop at nothing to tear it from their hands.
From Earth to the Milano to Knowhere and beyond, and set to the beat of awesome music, this five-part episodic series puts you in the rocket-powered boots of Star-Lord in an original Guardians adventure, told in the unique and award-winning Telltale style, where your decisions and actions will drive the path of the story you experience.”
