The Cabin In The Woods Set For April 13, 2012 Release Date

The Drew Goddard/Joss Whedon horror project The Cabin in the Woods has been coming for a long time. MGM originally had the rights to distribute the film way back in 2009, but when the studio plunged into serious debt, plans to release the film fell by the way side. Then in April, Lionsgate took control of the rights and they now plan to release the film on April 13th.

This announcement will finally quench fanboy desire to get a glimpse of the film which has a strong creative team behind it. It is directed and co-written by Drew Goddard who was the writer of sci-fi/found footage flick Cloverfield and Joss Whedon, creator of Buffy and Firefly, also helped write the screenplay. The cast includes Chris Hemsworth, Bradley Whitford and Richard Jenkins.

Hemsworth shot the film before Thor and Cabin in the Woods was supposed to be released before his superhero pic. Now that he has had a big starring role in a massive blockbuster movie, his rising star power will help promote the film, while people like me will go because Richard Jenkins is in it and Joss Whedon wrote it.

Hemsworth plays a young businessman who goes to the titular cabin and finds something dark and disturbing at the heart of the woods. The Cabin in the Woods could be one reason to stay positive about the horror genre amid the Hollywood trend of remakes and trashy sequels. It has serious potential behind it and I’m really hoping that it turns out to be a success.
