Though most well known for his musical abilities, rapper turned actor Common is starting to make a decent case for himself as a legitimate talent on screen. Hot off a solid turn in John Wick: Chapter 2, The Hollywood Reporter is now telling us that he’s set to headline Quick Draw, a revenge thriller from Content Media.

On board to produce is Lorenzo di Bonaventura, working from a screenplay by Deuce Bigelow: Male Gigolo scribe Harris Goldberg, who will also direct. A logline isn’t available at the moment, but according to those involved, Quick Draw will boast “hyper intense shoot-outs, choreographed car chases, and lightning fast hand-to-hand combat that plays out across the mean streets of Los Angeles.”

“Harris has such an incredible vision for this film that this collaboration is particularly exciting for us. The narrative he creates is incredibly rich and while intense action defines this movie, the story is also very much character driven. I’m very excited to work with Common, as well as our partners from Content Media, who really comprehend the global potential for the film.” said di Bonaventura in a statement.

Admittedly, this sounds a bit generic, but with plot details still being kept firmly under wraps, we could be wrong. If nothing else though, it’ll be nice to see Common get a chance to headline an action vehicle and even if it doesn’t bring anything new to the table, watching the actor kick ass and take names for an hour and a half or so isn’t the worst way to spend your time.

Production on the film will get underway this summer, with Quick Draw set to land at some point in 2018. We don’t have an exact release date just yet, but once we do, we’ll be sure to let you know.
