Amazon Studios is set to bring together Steve Carell and Amy Ryan (Central Intelligence) once more for Beautiful Boy, a drug-addiction drama from director Felix van Groeningen.

Word comes by way of Deadline, revealing that Carell and Ryan, who first shared the screen on long-running sitcom The Office, will play David and his ex-wife Vicki, respectively. A big-screen adaptation of the 2008 memoir, Beautiful Boy: A Father’s Journey Through His Son’s Addiction, by David Sheff, Amazon and van Groeningen’s feature kicks into gear when David and Vicki are forced to set aside old differences in the interest of their son Nic, who has succumbed to an all-consuming methamphetamine addiction.

Best known for his work on The Broken Circle Breakdown, Felix van Groeningen is on board to direct a script he penned alongside Lion scribe Luke Davies. As for the addition of Amy Ryan, the actress struck a chord with Steve Carell after the two played sweethearts on NBC’s The Office, so we’re intrigued to see how the creative duo carry that chemistry over to more drama-oriented material. Behind the scenes, Amazon Studios is partnering with Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment.

Little is known about Amazon’s release plans for Beautiful Boy at this moment in time, but we’ll be keeping a close eye on the adaptation as this story unfolds. Beyond that, Steve Carell will soon reprise the role of Gru (and Dru!) for animation sequel Despicable Me 3. It’ll also signal the return of those iconic little Minions on June 30th, and you can catch the riotous new trailer right here.
