IMAX Poster For Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 Is A Beautiful Burst Of Neon Color

Star-Lord and the gang shoot for the stars in the neon-drenched IMAX poster for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. It's due to open on May 5th.

Ever the advocate of IMAX, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 director James Gunn has taken to Facebook today to share a beautiful new one-sheet for the sequel, before reminding budding viewers that IMAX is really the only way to experience Marvel’s ragtag crew on the silver screen.

Bringing together Star-Lord – and that’s Star-Lord, not Star-Munch – Gamora, Drax, a gun-toting Rocket Raccoon and little Baby Groot, who can be seen clutching on to what we assume to be Awesome Mix Vol. 2, the film’s IMAX poster is simply dripping with style. Lean close enough and you’ll also be able to pinpoint Mantis (Pom Klementieff) Ayesha (Elizabeth Debicki) and Yondu, Michael Rooker’s interstellar pirate who flashes a wicked grin. Kurt Russell’s Ego, meanwhile, is nowhere to be seen, though it would appear eagle-eyed fans have already deciphered the design behind Ego’s alien planet. In short, they traced Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2‘s latest pics back to a body of fractal art from Hal Tenny, who assisted in the creation of Russell’s otherworldly form.

If you’re staying clear of any and all spoiler material, we’ll kindly direct your attention toward James Gunn’s impassioned statement on IMAX, and why the large-screen format is essentially the perfect fit for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

“Those who have followed me awhile know that IMAX is the optimal way to view a Guardians movie. I personally oversee the 3D, crafting every shot, and only in IMAX do we shift aspect ratios during big scenes so that you get nearly 30% more screen size than anywhere else. Unlike many other films today where screen size shifts and 3D are afterthoughts, we plan our aspect ratios during the script stage, and every single shot is tailored for 3D as we shoot it. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 is designed to be a fully immersive experience to be seen IN theaters. I’m glad that we’ve been able to partner up with IMAX from the moment of its conception.”

Star-Lord and the gang shoot for the stars when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits U.S. theaters on May 5th. James Gunn’s space opera is the first of three major Marvel movies earmarked for 2017, what with Spider-Man: Homecoming and Thor: Ragnarok also waiting in the wings.
