Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri spark widespread havoc in the fantastic red band trailer for Martin McDonagh’s starry crime thriller.
Headed up by Frances McDormand as Mildred Hayes, Three Billboards is a black comedy and proud of it, with enough cussing and shenanigans to warrant an R rating ten times over. Directing from his own script, McDonagh’s latest creative venture orbits around Mildred Hayes, who takes it upon herself to raise awareness for her daughter’s murder case months after it was willfully tossed to the side by the local police department. The result is, well, three rather incendiary billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri that in turn spur the police force into action. Thrust into the midst of that storm is Chief William Willoughby (Han Solo star Woody Harrelson), who struggles to keep a lid on things once Hayes’ campaign for justice begins to take hold.
As the creative mind behind In Bruges and Seven Psychopaths, there’s a crackle of excitement swirling around Martin McDonagh’s latest. Not only does it feature an all-star cast – McDormand and Harrelson are joined by Sam Rockwell, Abbie Cornish, Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage and John Hawkes – but you’d struggle to find another director that can concoct a dark comedy quite like Martin McDonagh. Tinged with a tongue-in-cheek tone that evokes memories of Fargo – both the 1996 original and Noah Hawley’s hit anthology series – you’ll be able to find the film’s official logline, below.
After months have passed without a culprit in her daughter’s murder case, Mildred Hayes makes a bold move, painting three signs leading into her town with a controversial message directed at William Willoughby, the town’s revered chief of police. When his second-in-command Officer Dixon, an immature mother’s boy with a penchant for violence, gets involved, the battle between Mildred and Ebbing’s law enforcement is only exacerbated.
Martin McDonagh and Co. will erect Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri sometime later this year.
