Take Another Peek At Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 In This Extended TV Spot

It's an immutable law of nature that adding David Bowie to something makes it better. Director James Gunn knows this full well, which is why he soundtracked the team's arrival at Knowhere in the first film to "Moonage Daydream." Now, Bowie is back in this extended TV spot for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, whose release is now just over a month away.

Director James Gunn knows this full well, which is why he soundtracked the team’s arrival at Knowhere in the first film to “Moonage Daydream.” Now, Bowie is back in this extended TV spot for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, whose release is now just over a month away.

The promo is filled with footage familiar to anyone keeping up with the trailers for the film, and even the presence of Bowie’s “Suffragette City” is familiar from a previous TV spot released not too long ago. But I’m not one to turn my nose up at quality, and the more TV spots there are featuring lengthy clips of serious kickass Bowie songs the better, right?

In an alternate universe where Bowie is still alive, audiences are gearing up to watch the man himself appear in parallel universe version of the film. Gunn, while expressing his grief that one of his favorite musicians had died, explained that the production team were bouncing around an idea to ask Bowie to cameo in their sequel. Sadly, his health problems kept him from doing so, but surely his presence would have propelled the film from ‘merely’ looking great to stratospheric levels of hype.

Still, I think we can at least hope that Bowie’s songs will make an appearance on the soundtrack, courtesy of Star-Lord’s trusty cassette player. As Gunn explains:

We featured “Moonage Daydream” in Guardians, but I always thought [Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars] character was felt far beyond that, in the aesthetics, in the integral and seemingly-natural linking in popular culture of ’70’s rock and space opera.  I’ve been trying to work another song from Ziggy into the sequel, which would make Bowie the only artist to have a song on both Vol. 1 and Vol. 2.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 blasts into theatres on May 5th. Not too much longer to go now, folks.
