Though he may be getting ready to blast off for a galaxy far, far away once again this winter in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Oscar Isaac is still making room for other projects, and Deadline brings word today of one that sounds quite interesting. Titled Operation Finale, the actor has signed on to star in and produce the WWII drama, which has Chris Weitz in the director’s seat.
Isaac will take on the role of Peter Malkin, the “chief of operations for Israel’s intelligence agency” who captured Adolf Eichmann, one of the “primary architects of the Holocaust” who had a huge hand in “planning and executing the mass deportation of Jews in Eastern Europe to the ghettos and concentration camps. He went into hiding after WWII in Argentina, where he was found and brought to justice by Mossad.”
While the project is still in the early stages of development, this sounds like a fantastic role for Isaac, an actor who just keeps getting better and better, it seems. It’s also got Academy Award written all over it, what with the subject matter and talent involved, and could very well earn the X-Men: Apocalypse star some serious awards recognition should everything come together how we expect it to.
Said to be in the vein of Argo and Munich, the script for Operation Finale was penned by Matthew Orton and while no other cast members have been announced just yet, we expect to hear more shortly as shooting will get underway this Fall in South America. As always, watch this space for more.
